Land Forces are intended to ensure the security of the country’s territory and to repel land, sea and air aggression as part of the resistance of any form of military threat to Poland.
Land Forces, in line with the requirements of contemporary and future battle fields, are equipped and prepared to perform the most important operational and tactical tasks in all combat conditions, first and foremost to carry out combat operations in cooperation with other branches of the armed forces while using the most advanced technology on the network-centric battlefield. With a high level of firepower, manoeuvrability, mobility and resistance to enemy strikes, they constitute the central core of the Polish Armed Forces (2/3 of personnel).
Land Forces Command is responsible for preparing and training soldiers to perform the tasks of the Polish Armed Forces during peacetime and in the face of external threats to the security of the state. Command and tactical units as well as mechanised, armoured, air-mobile, artillery and engineering units and other specialised support and security units all function as part of Land Forces. The main potential of Land Forces is in general brigades (mechanised, armoured, air-mobile, coastal defence and the Podhale Rifles). Furthermore, as part of combat support forces and specialised units there are also reconnaissance, combat helicopter, artillery, anti-tank artillery, sappers, anti-aircraft, engineering, chemical and logistics units (brigades, regiments and battalions).
Land Forces take part in operations resulting from Poland’s international commitments connected with ensuring international security, including peace and humanitarian missions as well as operations to remove the effects of natural disasters. Combat and security contingents are formed from Land Forces structures to serve overseas in Polish Military Contingents.
